The Department of Sociology conducted a field visit to Thriprayar, Thrissur, on 17 August 2026 as part of AARSHAVIDHYA 3.0, an initiative focused on documenting and promoting the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). A total of 52 students and 3 faculty members participated in the visit to the residence of Sri. Ramachandran Achary, a traditional practitioner of Nellipalaka/Nellipadi (നെല്ലിപ്പടി).

Students interacted with Sri. Ramachandran Achary and his son, Sri. Arun Achary, gaining insights into the intergenerational transmission of this traditional craft, which has reportedly been preserved by the Achary family for more than 350 years. The practical demonstration offered valuable understanding of indigenous techniques related to well construction, water management, natural materials, sustainability, and cultural heritage.

As part of the experiential learning activity, students also observed and experienced water from a traditional well fitted with Nellipalaka. The visit helped students explore the contemporary relevance of indigenous knowledge in addressing environmental and water-related challenges while encouraging them to connect traditional practices with scientific inquiry, sustainability, and heritage conservation.

The programme provided a meaningful platform for students to engage directly with traditional knowledge holders and appreciate the enduring value of India's indigenous practices.
